ECU Falls Just Short In 4-3 Decision At VCU
February 08, 2025 | Women's Tennis
RICHMOND, Va. – East Carolina and VCU staged an early season battle Saturday as the doubles point proved the ultimate difference in the host Rams' 4-3 victory at the Thalhimer Tennis Center.
The Pirates drop to 1-3 with the setback while VCU improves to 4-1.
Ines Bachir and Xenia Jeromin won their doubles bout on court one for the second-straight match, defeating Tania Isabel Andrade Sabando and Andrea Magallanes by a 6-2 margin. VCU would emerge victorious on courts two and three, however, to clinch the doubles point.
ECU mounted a charge in singles play, rallying back to tie the score at three via straight-set victories by Martina Muzzolon, Anne Lou Champion and Joan Madi. With all to play for, Lea Malazdra won two close sets over Jeromin to give the Rams the victory.
Up Next: The Pirates return to action Friday, Feb. 14, when they visit Campbell.
