Freshman Sprinter Also Earns Second Team All-American Honors in 60m
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - East Carolina track & field's Kelly Ufodiama will compete for an NCAA Championship on Saturday afternoon as she advances to the final of the women's 200m. The sprinter also earned Second Team All-American honors in the 60m.
Ufodiama will take the blocks at 3:50 p.m. on Saturday as part of a two-heat eight-woman final vying to the national title. The rookie out of Round Rock, Texas finished eighth in the preliminary round with her time of 22.96 seconds, just nabbing the final qualifying spot.
Ufodiama also competed in the preliminary round of the 60m where she finished in a tie for 11th. In so doing, she earns Second Team All-American honors, the first ECU athlete to earn All-American recognition indoors since Raqurra Ishmar in 2016 (11th, Weight Throw).
By completing the race in the 200m final, no matter where she finishes, Ufodiama will earn First Team All-American honors. This would be the first such performance since Avion Jones finished seventh in the men's high jump in 2015 and the first by an ECU woman since Tynita Butts' runner-up effort in the high jump in 2013. East Carolina has never had an NCAA Champion in track & field.
Ufodiama is the 2025 American Athletic Conference Indoor Champion in the 60m and 200m and the 2025 American Most Valuable Performer, Freshman of the Year, and Most Valuable Performance honoree. She holds ECU records and American Athletic Conference Championships meet records in both the 60m and 200m. Her 200m PR of 22.76 seconds is also an American Athletic Conference record.
