ELON, N.C. – The East Carolina tennis team kept its stretch of strong play going Saturday, picking up a 4-3 win over Elon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

The Pirates have now emerged victorious in three of their last four matches and defeated a strong Phoenix side that entered the contest with an 11-5 record.

Elon jumped ahead in doubles play with a 6-0 win on court two, but Anne Lou Champion and Martina Muzzolon took a 6-2 decision at the No. 3 position before Ines Bachir and Xenia Jeromin clinched the point with a 7-5 triumph on court one.

In singles, the sides traded wins back and forth until it came down to court two where Muzzolon outlasted Helen Sarikulaya 6-7 (0), 7-6 (1), 6-1 to send ECU home with the victory.
