Boca Raton, Fla. – Ellie Pate had a match-high 16 kills but East Carolina was unable to snap its losing skid, falling in three sets to Florida Atlantic (22-25, 20-25, 18-25) at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Aulie Huff added 10 kills for the Pirates (8-5, 0-2 American) who dropped their fourth straight match and failed to win a set for the first time this season.

Olivia Hart led Florida Atlantic (10-5, 1-1 American) with 14 kills.

The early stages of the first set were tight until the Pirates went on a 5-0 run to turn an 10-9 lead into a 15-9 edge. The Owls eventually battled back and took the lead after an attack error from the Pirates and closed the set with back-to-back kills.

Florida Atlantic started the second set fast, going ahead 6-1, before ECU regained its composure and took the lead at 14-13 on Huff's kill. The teams traded blows down the stretch but once again it was the Owls who closed the set out with a 4-0 run.

After Pate's kill tied the third set at 18, Florida Atlantic closed the set on a 7-0 to complete the sweep.
