Pirates Close Out Bulldog Invitational With Sweep Of West Georgia

Asheville, N.C. – Aulie Huff recorded a team-high 12 kills as East Carolina concluded its play at the Bulldog Invitational with a sweep of West Georgia on Saturday morning.
The Pirates (6-0) earned the sweep by scores of 25-22, 25-17 and 25-18 respectively.Â
Ellie Pate added 10 kills and Sydney Buchanan continued her strong start to her freshman season with nine kills.
After a 14-14 tie in the first set, ECU gained separation with a 4-0 run capped off with an ace from Taryn Gilreath and cruised to a first set victory.
Three service aces from Carlia Northcross helped ECU jump out to an 8-0 run to start the second set. The Bulldogs closed the gap to three at one point but the Pirates responded with another 4-0 spurt that West Georgia could not overcome.
West Georgia held an early 12-11 lead in the third set but an 8-1 scoring run from ECU flipped the momentum and gave the Pirates a 19-13 edge to ultimately record the sweep.
