IRVING, Texas – East Carolina women's basketball's Kennedy Fauntleroy has earned American Conference Player of the Week accolades, the league announced Monday.
Fauntleroy, a senior from Upper Marlboro, Md., averaged 24.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 7.5 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.0 blocks in two ECU wins last week.
First, she posted a 21-point, eight-rebound, seven-assist outing in a 79-48 win over Tulsa, the team's largest margin in a conference win in 11 years. She was the first ECU player with 20+ points, 8+ rebounds and 7+ assists in a game since Jasmine Young went for 21 points, eight rebounds and 10 assists on Jan. 10, 2008.
Fauntleroy followed that up with a 27-point, eight-assist game against Temple, an 81-65 win. She put up 13 points in the fourth quarter and scored eight of the team's final 12 points in the game while assisting on one of the other two baskets. That win gave ECU wins in nine of their last 10 and pushed the team to 5-1 in conference play for just the fourth time ever.
Fauntleroy's 15 assist week pushed her to 33 over the last five games, the most by an ECU player since Ashley Clarke had 35 assists from Feb. 13 to March 3, 2010.
Fauntleroy is the second Pirate to earn Player of the Week honors after Keanna Rembert did so on Jan. 5. Fauntleroy had previously received two Honorable Mention nods.
