March 28, 2026 | Women's Tennis
RICHMOND, Va. - The East Carolina women's tennis team fell just short in a 4-3 loss at Richmond on Saturday.
The Pirates took the doubles point thanks to a 6-4 win by Kim Auerswald and Reese Calvo and a 7-5 decision by Xenia Jeromin and Lilly Lancaster.
In singles play, Auerswald and Ivona Savekova both managed individual victories on courts one and two, leveling the score at three all after Richmond had taken victories on courts four, six and three in order. This set up a duel on court five before Veronica Pavlenjo and Richmond's Lainey O'Neil. The match went all the way to a third set after each player took a set by 6-4 scores. In the third, O'Neal managed a decisive 6-3 margin to secure the fourth point and take the overall match for the Spiders.
The Pirates will look to bounce back tomorrow as they welcome App State to the River Birch Tennis Complex for an 11 a.m. tilt.
