
ECU Concludes Spring Practice With Scrimmage

GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina official closed out spring practice Saturday afternoon with the playing of the Annual Purple-Gold game inside Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. The scrimmage capped off the 41st Annual Pigskin Pig-Out festivities, which was sponsored by Piggly-Wiggly.
Second-year head coach Blake Harrell guided the Pirates through a series of drills with each unit going against one another before participating in a 7 on 7 segment that led to the scrimmage and closed with a redzone shootout. The practice, which was the 15th of the spring, lasted 90 minutes under partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the low 90's.

In the team portion of the day, Mitch Griffis guided the offense on a seven-play 65-yard drive for the games first points when Ashton Gray scored on a seven-yard run that was capped off by Andrew Conrad's point after. Cole Hodge connected with Mason Scott on a three-yard strike capping a 14 play, 60-yard drive with Noah Perez connecting on the point after.
Some defensive highlights came from Crews Law (five yards) and Javon Williams (2 yards) with sacks on the afternoon,
while Preston Carr (2 yards), Christian Peterson (5 yards), Ashton Levells-Mitchell (5 yards) and LJ Porter (3 yards) were credited with tackles for loss.

The scrimmage concluded with a redzone shootout with the defensive winning 19-16 after making four stops and holding the offense to a touchdown (Emory Williams to Ray Ray Joseph for 25 yards) and a couple of field goals.

ECU turns its attention to exams before beginning summer conditioning, which will lead up to fall camp that is set to begin the week of August 2.
