GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina Pirates completed a weekend sweep of South Florida and followed it up by earning a clean sweep of weekly conference honors, the league office announced Monday afternoon. Jack Herring was named American Conference Player of the Week, while Joseph Webb secured Pitcher of the Week recognition.Â
Jack Herring is one of the most consistent players through the Pirate lineup. Through the week against Old Dominion and South Florida, Herring went 9-for-15 (.600), accounted for nine runs, 11 RBI and did not strikeout once in four games. Â
On Saturday afternoon, before the 16-hour weather delay, Herring notched his 13th career home run, now leading the Pirates in home runs on the year with eight. Herring also had his first triple in his Division I career in game one of the doubleheader scheduled on Saturday, scoring two to help climb the scoreboard in the 12-4 win to solidify the series against South Florida. Â
Herring currently leads the Pirates in seven different offensive categories: batting average (.377), slugging percentage (.630), RBI (46), doubles (13), home runs (8) and total bases (97). While leading the Pirates, Herring also leads the conference in walks (38) and on-base percentage (.503). Â
Joseph Webb also had a stellar two outings this weekend, being an anchor in the bullpen for the Pirate pitching staff. Webb had back-to-back outings out of relief against South Florida over the weekend. In the first game of the scheduled doubleheader on Saturday, Webb finished the game going 2.2 innings, facing 10 batters, striking out a season high of 7, and giving up one hit and one walk. Â
In the resumption of the series finale on Sunday, Webb was the only pitcher to throw for the rest of the game. He gave up two total walks on the weekend and threw a 0.00 ERA on a total of 98 pitches. Â
Webb now holds a season 3.09 ERA after the weekend, and with his sixth win of the season, he currently has the most wins for the Pirates, as well as keeping opponent batting average to a low of .180. Â
The last time the Pirates swept conference weekly honors was back in 2024, when Carter Cunningham received American Conference Player of the Week and Trey Yesavage received Pitcher of the Week (4/29). Â
With Webb and Herring's performances, the East Carolina Pirates now hold a three-way tie for first in conference standings, with USTA and UAB also posting a 12-6 conference record.Â
