
Pirates Wrap Up Day Two with Multiple Qualifiers at Conference Championships

DENTON, Texas – The East Carolina Pirates turned in another strong day of competition Friday at the 2026 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships, highlighted by multiple event finals qualifications and scoring performances across both the men's and women's teams.Â
On the track, Kelly Ufodiama led the way for the Pirate women with the fastest qualifying time in the women's 100-meter prelims, clocking an 11.20 to automatically advance to Saturday's final. Freshman Daisha Shular also secured a spot in the finals after posting an 11.44 qualifying mark. Â
East Carolina also saw success in the women's 100-meter hurdles, where Kailey Elliott automatically qualified for the final with a 13.21 performance, while Aaliyah Brown-Muhammad advanced on time after crossing in 13.41. Â
For the men, Tyson Tippett delivered one of the top performances of the evening in the men's 100-meter prelims, tying for the fastest overall qualifying time at 10.14. Ja'Darien Parker added another finals berth with a 10.24, while Jace Coleman and Rashun Fountain each advanced on time for the Pirates. Â
Jordan Good continued ECU's success in middle-distance events, automatically qualifying for the men's 800-meter final after running 1:50.96. Â
In the field events, senior Shakiel Dacres scored valuable points for the Pirates with a fourth-place finish in the men's shot put, recording a mark of 17.34 meters. Brandon Gayle also added a point with an eighth-place finish at 16.43 meters. Â
The Pirate women added contributions in the women's shot put as Macy Dulaney and Anika Dupreez posted throws of 12.85 and 12.83 meters, respectively. Â
In the women's pole vault, Adeline Woodward cleared 3.59 meters for East Carolina, while Kira Hawaaboo represented the Pirates in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.51 meters. Â
East Carolina will conclude competition Saturday with several athletes competing in championship finals as the Pirates look to close out the conference meet on a strong note.Â
