Tavares Named Women's Tennis Assistant Coach

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Colin Tavares has been named the assistant coach for the East Carolina women's tennis program according to an announcement by sixth-year head coach Kirstin Burgess on Monday afternoon.
Tavares joins the Pirates fresh off of a four-year playing career at the collegiate level with stops at Eastern Florida State College and Nicholls State.
"I want to welcome Colin to Pirate Nation!" Burgess said. "After our interview process, I realized how much I was looking forward to working with him. He is coming in after a successful playing career and is ready to learn and eager to be a Pirate. I am excited to see what our now complete team can do this year!"
In his final two collegiate seasons at Nicholls State, Tavares was the team captain for the 2025-26 season and held the team's top singles record in 2024-25 on lines two and three and recorded the top doubles record on the team across all lines in that same season. He earned his bachelor of science in psychology from Nicholls State in May 2026.
Tavares spent his first two seasons playing at Eastern Florida State where he was ranked inside the top 15 nationally in doubles both years and assisted the Titans in securing back-to-back third place finishes at nationals.
