Gilreath Named American Conference Setter of the Week

GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina volleyball's Taryn Gilreath has been named the American Conference Setter of the Week, the league announced Monday, after her performance in the Pirates' first two conference matches against Charlotte and Rice.

Gilreath helped guide ECU to a perfect 2-0 start in American Conference play, first leading the Pirates to a three-set sweep of Charlotte on Sept. 23, then orchestrating a four-set victory over Rice on Sept. 25. The two wins marked ECU's first 2-0 start to conference play since joining The American in 2014.

Against Charlotte, Gilreath recorded a season-high 44 assists, along with two kills, three blocks and four digs, as the Pirates posted a .366 hitting percentage in the 3-0 victory. ECU produced 48 kills on 101 attacks, including 17 kills in both the second and third sets.

Gilreath followed with another 44-assist performance against Rice, adding six kills, two blocks and 16 digs to record her first double-double of the season and ninth career double-double in the Pirates' 3-1 victory in Houston. ECU hit .242 as a team with 60 kills, including a .333 hitting percentage in the fourth set to close out the match.

That victory over Rice marked ECU's first win over the Owls since 2007, snapping an eight-match overall losing streak to Rice and marking the Pirates' first victory inside Tudor Fieldhouse.

Across the two matches, Gilreath totaled 88 assists, 20 digs, eight kills and five blocks while helping ECU hit .290 as a team.

Ellie Pate and Emma Ortiz were also both named American Conference Honorable Mentions for their efforts in the two conference wins over the week.

The Pirates will return to Minges Coliseum on Friday, Oct. 2, when they host North Texas at 6:00 p.m. ET.
