A young, but promising front line defender who possesses plenty of raw strength and ability to provide quality depth despite short time in the ECU program ⦠Expected to open second campaign on Piratesā two-deep as a top reserve at the nose tackle position behind returning starter Demetri McGill ⦠Unfortunately, spring repetitions were cut short due to a violation of team rules (did not compete in either April scrimmage) ⦠However, did turn in a focused effort in off-season strength and conditioning program, earning an āexcellentā rating (per power quotient formula) ⦠Notable power numbers include a 600-pound squat lift, a 308-pound power clean and a 57ā shot put toss ⦠Clocked at 5.06 in the 40-yard dash and possesses a flex rating of 11.
2015: Played in five contests as a true freshman after inking with ECU during traditional February signing period ⦠Experienced action in contests against SMU, Tulsa, Temple, Connecticut and USF ⦠Previous coaching staff had hopes for a redshirt campaign, but personnel shortages on the line of scrimmage prompted call to active status ⦠Tallied five tackles (one solo), 1.5 TFLs and one sack ⦠Booked a season-high three stops in home matchup vs. Golden Hurricane, which included only quarterback drop (-6 yards) of campaign ⦠Other tackles came against Temple and USF (only solo hit) ⦠Credited with half a TFL against Owls ⦠Three of five stops were on rushing plays.
High School: Served as team captain for an Ayden-Grifton program that posted an 8-5 overall record and 5-0 conference mark in 2014 ⦠Overall, earned three varsity football letters for head coach Paul Cornwell ⦠Logged 63 solo stops, 17 tackles for lost yardage, six sacks and three fumble recoveries as a senior ⦠A member of the Class 2A All-State squad as a junior after playing on both sides of the ball (defensive end, offensive tackle) during sophomore campaign ⦠Recorded 16 solo hits (9.0 TFL) and four sacks despite missing a significant number of snaps because of an injury ⦠Selected as the Eastern Carolina 2A Conference Defensive Player-of-the-Year in 2013 ⦠Helped the Chargers to a 9-3 record and state playoff appearance in 2012 ⦠A mainstay for an Ayden-Grifton program that captured three consecutive conference titles ⦠Ranked as the No. 48 overall prospect and No. 5 defensive lineman in the state of North Carolina according to Scout.com ⦠Also picked up two additional varsity wrestling and track letters ⦠Owned a career record of 50-5 in the 285-pound weight class and finished as the state runner-up on the mat.
Personal: Full name is Justin Orlandor Brown ⦠Born at Greenville, N.C. ⦠Son of Brad Champan and Wanda Brown ⦠Brother Sterling Mills played prep football at nearby D.H. Conley High School ⦠A criminal justice major ⦠Hobbies include hunting and fishing ⦠Nickname is J.B.
