Tyler Zupcic is in his first year as East Carolina's director of baseball operations after officially accepting the position on Jan. 10, 2016.
Zupcic, a four-year letterwinner at Appalachian State University, will handle a variety of administrative duties, including team travel, game-day organization, summer and winter camps, special events coordination and community outreach efforts with the Pirate program.
Prior to his appointment at ECU, Zupcic spent the last year and a half as an assistant baseball coach at Providence High School, located in Charlotte, N.C. The Panthers, who were ranked No. 21 nationally by MaxPreps.com, posted a 31-4 record and claimed the 2015 NCSHAA 4A state title with a 10-2 victory over Millbrook – their first championship since 1995.
During his tenure with the Panthers, Zupcic worked directly with outfielders and hitters, while covering day-to-day responsibilities of field set up, facility maintenance and practice duties. He also assisted with equipment purchases, inventory documentation and overall uniform and equipment maintenance.
A three-time team captain for the Mountaineers, Zupcic appeared in 217 games (214 starts) over four seasons batting .326 (268-for-821) with 10 home runs, 61 doubles and 117 RBI. He finished his career ranked among the program’s all-time leaders in games played (second), at-bats (third), hits (third), runs (third/193), doubles (t3rd), total bases (fourth/375), stolen bases (t5th/45) and walks (ninth/94).
The Charlotte, N.C. native helped Appalachian State to three 30-plus win campaigns including a 41-18 record and an NCAA Regional appearance in Charlottesville, Va. as a junior in 2012. The Mountaineers notched wins over No. 23 Oklahoma (5-4) and No. 15 Virginia (6-5) before dropping the next two contests to the Sooners and closing the year just four wins shy of reaching the College World Series. Zupcic, who earned 2012 Second-Team All-Southern Conference honors, batted .338 (71-for-210) with a pair of home runs, 17 doubles, 34 RBI and scored a team second-best 54 runs.
Zupcic received his bachelor's degree in communication from Appalachian State in 2014.
