DO’S AND DON’TS FOR DONORS REGARDING PROSPECTS
DONORS MAY …
- Notify or forward information (e.g., internet postings, newspaper clipping, etc.) to appropriate members of the ECU Athletics coaching staff about a prospect in your area.
- Attend a prospect’s athletics contest as long as no contact is made with the prospect, his/her relatives or friends, or any other individual associated with the prospect regarding the academic or athletic ability of the prospect.
- Follow a prospect’s social media account (e.g., Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.).
- Continue established relationships with friends and neighbors, even if their child is of prospect age. However, boosters may not encourage a prospect’s participation in ECU Athletics or provide benefits to these prospects that were not previously provided.
DONORS MAY NOT …
- Contact a prospect or their relatives or friends for recruiting purposes. This includes contact via telephone, mail, email, text, and/or social networking (e.g. Twitter, Facebook).
- Face-to-face contact cannot be made on or off-campus for the purpose of recruiting.
- Assist ECU’s coaching staff by picking up transcripts, game films, or any other information from a prospect’s educational institution.
- Provide benefits of any kind (e.g., cash, clothing, special discounts, gifts, lodging, transportation, meals, loans, camp admissions, etc.) to a prospect, his/her relatives, coach, or friends.
- Make contact with a prospect or his/her parents while on campus for an official or unofficial visit.
- Employ or arrange employment for a prospect’s relatives or friends.
- Provide free or reduced-cost tickets for a prospect or the prospect’s relatives or guardian to attend an athletic event.
- Provide anything to a prospect without obtaining prior approval from the Compliance Office.
