- Baseball Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach
Mason Baggett begins his fourth year with the East Carolina strength and conditioning staff, where he works directly with the nationally-ranked baseball team.
In addition to developing and overseeing workouts for the 2009 Conference USA Champion baseball squad, his responsibilities also entail assisting with the training of the back-to-back C-USA Champion football program, men[apos]s and women[apos]s tennis and the cheer and dance squads.
Baggett earned his bachelor[apos]s degree in food, nutrition and exercise from Virginia Tech in 2006 and received his master[apos]s degree in health promotion and sport performance from his alma mater in 2008.
A 2006 letterwinner at Virginia Tech, Baggett played for coach Frank Beamer from 2002-06, where the Hokies participated in four straight bowls and captured the 2004 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship. While pursuing his master[apos]s degree, Baggett served as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach, working with the Hokie football, baseball, wrestling, men[apos]s and women[apos]s basketball, volleyball, men[apos]s tennis, and golf teams.
Baggett also spent time with the United States Olympic Committee in 2007 as an intern, where he assisted with the men[apos]s and women[apos]s wrestling programs, women[apos]s volleyball, boxing and judo. He was also directly responsible for the training of the USA shooting resident athletes as well as the modern pentathlon resident program.
An avid power lifter and strongman competitor, Baggett is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA) and by USA Weightlifting.
Baggett is married to the former Katie Virtue (current ECU Assistant Volleyball Coach) of St. Charles, Ill., and currently resides in Greenville, N.C.
