Phillip Mitchell is in his third season with the Pirates’ offense as a graduate assistant coach.
Â
Mitchell assisted East Carolina’s full-time staff during the 2015 campaign with practice sessions, game plan meetings, recruiting, video analysis and opponent scouting before formally accepting the GA post a year later.
Â
Before joining the Pirate staff, Mitchell served as defensive backs coach for Princeton (N.C.) High School in 2014 and in the spring of 2015. He worked hand-in-hand with the defensive coordinator to break down film, assisted in the weekly opponent preparation and created offensive play cards for the scout team.
Â
As an undergraduate at ECU, Mitchell was a student assistant coach on Ruffin McNeill’s staff and worked directly with former defensive coordinator Brian Mitchell and former special teams coordinator Kirk Doll. Additionally, he contributed valuable efforts during summer football camps.
Â
Mitchell earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from ECU in 2014, graduating with a 3.5 grade point average.
