Ryan McManus is in his fourth season at East Carolina University and second as a senior offensive analyst. He currently works with the offensive line unit and came to ECU on March 16, 2020, working as a senior offensive analyst.

Prior to his re-appointment to a senior offensive analyst, McManus served as the director of operations after his promotion before the start of the 2022 season. In that role, he assisted the chief of staff with all things related to Pirate travel as well as assisting the coaches and staffers with a variety of duties, including day-to-day operations.

Prior to accepting a post with the Pirates, served as quarterbacks coach and director of football operations at Winston-Salem Sate for four seasons (2016-2019). He was the Rams’ primary offensive play caller during the 2017 and 2018 campaigns, a two-year span which resulted in significant statistical per-game increases in total yards, passing yards, along with completion percentage

McManus also assisted with the special teams that produced a kickoff return unit which stood second in the conference in return average in 2018. Helped WSSU to a 9-3 mark in 2016, which included a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) championship and a NCAA Division II playoff appearance. Tutored Rams quarterbacks to a 2,003-yard, 20-TD (with only 10 interceptions) passing season in ’16 before coaching 2018 CIAA Rookie-of-the-Year Dominique Graves.

Earned first full-time position as varsity quarterbacks (and head junior varsity) coach at South Brunswick High School in 2015. Prior to South Brunswick, he worked as a graduate assistant coach (offensive line) at his alma mater Wake Forest from 2012 to 2014, assisting coaches Nick Tabacca, Adam Scheier and Jonathan Himebauch/

McManus was a four-year letterwinner for the Demon Deacons after earning initial roster position as a walk-on in 2005 before being elevated to scholarship status. He was a member of a WFU program that captured the 2006 Atlantic Coast Conference championship, recorded three-straight winning seasons (11-3, 9-4, 8-5) and three subsequent bowl appearances (Orange, Meineke, Eagle Bank) as a redshirt freshman, sophomore and junior.

Played quarterback on offense while also serving a key role on special teams as a holder and member of the kickoff, kickoff return, and punt return units. McManus was a three-time All-ACC Academic Team selection who earned a bachelor’s degree in communication from Wake Forest in 2009 before following with a master’s in liberal studies (2014).

McManus graduated from D.H. Conley High School (Greenville, N.C.) while father served on the ECU staff as running backs coach from 1996 to 2004. He is married to the former Hannah Baxter of Northern Virginia and the couple are the proud parents of three sons, Patton, Rory and Cooper.
