Shannon Johnston
- Title:
- Assistant Coach
Shannon Johnston begins her first season as an Assistant Coach at East Carolina University in 2008.
Prior to joining the Pirate staff, Johnston spent four years playing at Louisiana Tech University. An outside hitter, Johnston was a First-Team Preseason All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) selection before her senior year and a two-time second-team all-conference choice during her career. She was also a three-time All-Louisiana honoree, as voted upon by the Louisiana Sports Writer[apos]s Association.
At the end of her collegiate playing career, Johnston had etched her name into the program[apos]s record book multiple times. She currently ranks third in career kills with 1,449, while her 4.14 kills per game average she tallied as a senior is the third-highest in school history. Johnston also stands second and fourth on the single-season kills leaderboard. Her career average of 3.36 kills per game is also the fourth-highest ever recorded in Louisiana Tech history.
Johnston also excelled off the court as she was a four-time Academic All-WAC honoree before earning her bachelor of science degree in family and child studies in 2008. For three years she served as a WAC-Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative, and in 2006, she attended the NCAA National Student-Athlete Leadership Development Conference.
Johnston, a Rowlett, Texas native, is married to husband Brett and the couple currently resides in Greenville.
She replaces Eve Rackham, who accepted a similar position at Florida International University in Miami.
