Ever since his appointment to the East Carolina Athletics staff in 2002, Greg Pierce has provided expertise and leadership to many facets of the department's video and technology division that now covers all venues and broadcast platforms. In July of 2021, he was promoted to associate athletics director for external relations.
Â
Initially hired as ECU's coordinator of athletics video services working primarily with the Pirates' football program, Pierce was then tasked with providing oversight of a unit that has successfully met the challenges of both internal and external content distribution and facility problem-solving skills.
Â
Additionally, he served in a long-time role as radio engineer for men's basketball and handles the audio and video needs of many special projects such as the Pirate Hall of Fame wing in the Smith-Williams Center. After earning a promotion to director status shortly after his arrival, Pierce was elevated to assistant athletics director before assuming an associate AD title in 2021.
Â
Pierce currently coordinates all of East Carolina's streaming services, which includes the recently-launched ESPN+ platform that is a major component of the American Athletic Conference's television agreement with its primary broadcast partner. The new deal offers unprecedented online coverage of all of ECU's 18 sport programs and includes a state-of-the-art in-house production studio that Pierce both designed and manages.
Â
Prior to his move to Greenville, Pierce held a similar video coordinator position at the University of Richmond after a stint at WLEX-TV in Lexington, Ky.
Â
The Galax, Va. native also served in the United States Army where he was a Russian linguist before attending Eastern Kentucky University and earning a bachelor's degree in video broadcasting in 1997.
Â
Pierce and wife Erin are the parents of two children - daughter Madeline and son Peyton.
