Jasmine James was named East Carolina women’s basketball’s newest assistant coach on April 13, 2026.

James joins the Pirates after her most recent stop with the Tulsa Gulden Hurricane where she served as an assistant coach and general manager. With Tulsa, she helped the team to a 19-12 record in 2025-26, finishing fourth in the American Conference and guiding Hannah Riddick and Mady Cartwright to All-Conference accolades.

A 2013 graduate from the University of Georgia, James was a Freshman All-American for the 2009-10 season and a three-time SEC All-Academic honoree. After her collegiate playing career, she was selected by the Seattle Storm in the third round of the 2013 WNBA draft before playing with the Phoenix Mercury domestically and making stops internationally in Brazil, Luxembourg, Germany and Israel in her four-year professional career.

After he playing career ended, James began her professional career as a Director of Basketball Operations at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville before making stops as an assistant coach at Texas Tech (2020-22), Missouri (2022-25) and Tulsa (2025-26).

As a coach she has helped guide 10 players to All-Conference honors across the American, OVC and SEC as well as mentoring four SEC All-Freshman performers while at Missouri. Additionally, several players she has coached have gone on to professional careers, finding success in the international ranks.

James earned her Bachelor of Science in Recreation Management and Leisure Studies from the University of Georgia in 2013.
