Jay Johnson was appointed to the Assistant Director of Compliance role in September 2026.

As the Assistant Director of Compliance, he works with all 18 sport programs and his primary responsibilities will include monitoring NCAA Bylaws 13 – Recruiting, Bylaw 16 – Benefits & Complimentary Tickets, and Bylaw 17 – Playing and Practice Seasons. He will serve as the compliance department’s liaison to Ticketing, Life Skills, the Business Office, and Teamworks/C+R. Jay will also assist with interpretation research, rules education, NIL, and agent policies.

Previously, Jay served as a Compliance Legal Intern with the Ohio State University Athletics Compliance Office from August 2025 – May 2026. He reviewed prospect recruiting visits, assisted with staff education, and researched and prepared a comprehensive framework on the current landscape of NCAA lawsuits.

Prior to his time as a compliance intern, he worked as a summer associate at Brennan, Manna, & Diamond, and a law clerk at Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office.

Jay is a native of Cleveland, OH, and former Ohio State men’s swimming student-athlete from 2019-20 to 2022-23. He graduated from The Ohio State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics and in French and Francophone Studies in May 2023, and J.D. in May 2026. He enjoys discussing films, reading, speaking French, and following Cleveland sports.
