Juan Soto is in his first year as the wide receivers coach at East Carolina, a position he officially began on Jan. 1, 2025.

Soto comes to Greenville after spending the last two years (2024-25) as the assistant wide receivers coach at the University of North Texas under new offensive coordinator Jordan Davis.

Under the tutelage of Soto in 2025, First-Team All-American Conference wide receiver Wyatt Young led the Mean Green in receptions (70), receiving yards (1,264) and touchdowns (10), while Cameron Dorner (New England Patriots) tallied a team second-best in catches (56), yards (911) and touchdowns (8). Young stood among the FBS leaders in receiving yards (third), reception yards per game (eighth/90.3), yards per reception (17th/13.21), receiving scores (12th), receptions per game (53rd/5.0), total touchdowns (55th/11) and all-purpose yards per game (77th/91.43). While recording a 12-2 record that included an appearance in the American Conference Championship Game and a matchup against San Diego State in the Isleta New Mexico Bowl (W, 49-47)

In 2025, UNT’s offense led the nation in first down offense (first/334), scoring offense (first/44.8 ppg) and total offense (first/504.3 ypg), while also standing among NCAA FBS leaders (Top 25) eight other statistical categories: passing offense (second/323.2 pg), team passing efficiency (third/174.31), 4th down conversions (ninth/72.4 pct.), completion percentage (ninth/70.0 pct.), winning percentage (ninth/84.6), passing yards per completion (10th/14.1), red zone offense (14th/91.9 pct.) and 3rd down conversions (24th/46.4 pct.).

During his first season working with the offense, UNT finished the 2024 season ranked third in FBS in total offense, fourth in passing offense and 23rd in scoring offense. UNT set a program record with 328.2 passing yards per game while the 488.8 total yards per game ranked third in program history and the 33.5 points per game ranked seventh.

Working directly with wide receivers, Soto helped a pair of players have over 750 receiving yards in the same season for the first time since 2018.
He joined the Mean Green after spending the 2023 season as the Wide Receiver / Pass Game Coordinator and Recruiting Coordinator at Wagner College in Staten Island, NY. In his first season coaching the receiving core for the Seahawks, Soto led Wagner to the third-best passing offense in the Northeast Conference. Soto oversaw the growth of Jaylen Bonelli who finished inside the top four in the NEC in receiving yards, receptions and touchdowns in the 2023 season. Jaylen Bonelli also earned Northeast Conference (NEC) Offensive Rookie of the Year and Freshman All-American honors by FCS Football Central. Bonelli became the second Seahawk and first Wagner wide receiver ever to win the award.

Soto also brought a plethora of coaching and winning experience to North Texas. During the 2022 season at Yale he served as the Quality Control / Wide Receiver assistant coach, also working with the Bulldogs’ punt and kick return units. Two Bulldogs grabbed All-Ivy honors that were represented in the receiver room. Mason Tipton (New Orleans Saints) and Ryan Lindley, and captured an outright Ivy League Championship.

Prior to joining the Bulldogs’ staff, Soto was the graduate assistant / quarterback assistant under Head Coach Sean Lewis at Kent State University.
In 2021, Kent State clinched its second postseason berth in four years with an appearance in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. Soto coached senior quarterback Dustin Crum who was presented with the Vern Smith Leadership Award, signifying the Mid-American Conference's Most Valuable Player.

During a shortened 2020 season the flashFAST offense was on fully display while finishing the season 3-1. Offensively, Kent State led the nation in total offense (606.5) and scoring offense (49.75). The Golden Flashes punctuated that electrifying year with a 69-35 triumph over Akron, tying the program's single-game records in points (69) and touchdowns scored (10).

During his stint at Ventura College where he served as the recruiting coordinator and wide receivers coach for two seasons (2018-2019). Soto was a key member of the coaching staff in Ventura's march to the Southern California Football Association title in 2018, culminating Ventura appearance in the CCCAA State Championship game. Soto has coached Terrell Vaughn to First Team All-State/All American, while Mark Ferrell collected Second Team All Conference & Chris Reaves received First Team All-Conference All-Purpose Back.

Soto spent a year coaching the quarterbacks while teaching at Hialeah Senior High School in Florida before landing the Wide Receiver / Recruiting Coordinator position at Ventura College in 2018.

The Miami, Florida native earned his Associates Degree from Ventura College in 2014 and helped lead Ventura College to a 2014 Conference Title. He earned his Bachelor's Degree at Saginaw Valley State University in 2017 and was a two-year letterman with the Cardinals. As well as his Master’s Degree in Sports Administration from Kent State.
