Madison (Gervais) Strickland was named to the East Carolina University Office of Student Development staff as an academic coordinator in 2020.
In her current role, Strickland's primary area of responsibility is working directly with the ECU women's basketball, women's golf and lacrosse programs in developing, maintaining and sustaining an academic model of success.
Prior to her appointment at East Carolina, Strickland spent a year serving as assistant academic coordinator at Virginia Tech where she helped provide classroom-related support along with personal and career development guidance for the Hokies' football team. She also was a postgraduate intern at American Athletic Conference member Tulsa in 2018-19, serving as an academic coordinator and learning specialist specifically working with the Golden Hurricanes' football, track and cross country teams while also monitoring progress for freshmen and at-risk student-athletes.
Strickland was a graduate assistant at alma mater Purdue University (Ind.) Northwest while pursuing her MBA, which she earned in May of 2018. In addition to coordinating the department's SAAC Community Service efforts, she served in a student-athlete advisory position within the athletics academic affairs and welfare offices.
She received her bachelor's degree in elementary and special education from what was then known as Purdue University Calumet in 2015 after four years as a student-athlete on the Pride basketball team. As a high school standout at Mishawaka, she was a two-time All-Northern Indiana Conference selection and an All-State (honorable mention) pick.
