Mark Hatcher is in his third year as the recruiting coordinator at East Carolina University, a position he began on July 1, 2024. He enters hit fourth year on the Pirates staff after serving as a defensive graduate assistant from 2022-23.Â
In his current role, he assists with recruiting efforts and activities that includes identification, development, strategy and execution of recruiting for football program. Prior to being elevated to the recruiting director,

Hatcher was a defensive graduate assistant helping with group meeting and on the field instruction, including leading individual drills. He was also responsible for run game breakdown and offensive scout teams, created weekly scouting reports and defensive presentations.

His group ranked second in American Conference in rushing yards allowed during the 2022 and 2023 campaign and worked with Second-Team All-AAC defensive lineman D’Anta Johnson.

Before coming to East Carolina, Hatcher spent one year (2021) at Delta State working as a graduate assistant (safeties/special teams assistant) where he led position group in meetings and on the field instruction. He was also responsible for overall opponent breakdown, offensive scout teams, and scouting reports while being the only defensive staff member in the box on game days.

Hatcher coached on unit which led the Gulf South Conference in interceptions, including converted linebacker Sherrod Paige, who led the Gulf South in interceptions as a safety. His special team’s unit set a school record for punts blocked in a season (four) and blocked kicks (eight), while the squad gave up fewest kickoff return yards in the Gulf South Conference.

He also coached Kory Gainwell and Robbie Evans, who led the Gulf South in kick return yards and punt return yards, respectively and Parker Burleson, who ranked first in the conference in punts inside the 20, and second in total yards and 50-yard punts en route to Second team All-GSC honors.

At the University of South Alabama (2020), Hatcher served in a special team/defensive quality control position where he created special teams scouting reports and select game plans, drew offensive and special teams scout cards and assisted in creation of defensive scouting reports.

During his lone season with the Jaguars, he coached punter Jack Brooks, who was named PFF First Team All-Sun Belt, and kicker Diego Guajardo, who was named PFF Second Team All-Sun Belt.

Hatcher began his collegiate athletics career at Coastal Carolina University from 2016-19 as a defensive analyst while also working with the defensive line and outside linebackers. He led individual drills and select meetings, helped transition 4-3 linebackers to a 3-4 hybrid position, led offensive scout teams and created weekly breakdown of opponents.

Working as the special team’s analyst as well as linebackers, he broke down special teams and defensive film and prepared special teams scouting reports. He helped the linebackers coach with individual drill setup and operation while also charting defensive calls and plays during games.

He coached the kickers and charted their progress over the season and ran special teams scout teams, while mentoring true freshman kicker Massimo Biscardi, who was named a semifinalist for the Lou Graza award as well as long snapper Connor Kubala, who was named Honorable Mention All-Sun Belt, and was the only snapper to receive honors.

Hatcher earned his undergraduate degree in recreation and sport management in 2017 from Coastal Carolina University before receiving his masters in instructional technology from East Carolina in 2024.
