Pirate Volleyball Drops Match to Southern Miss

The Pirates led for most of game one, but Southern Miss eventually took the advantage, going up 10-9 on a kill by Nicki Tribble. Southern Miss held onto their lead, going up by as much as six at one point. East Carolina rallied back to cut the lead to three, which is where it would stay as the Golden Eagles took game one, 30-27.
The lead flip-flopped throughout much of the second game. The Pirates earned their first score of the game on a kill by Katie Jannush, who led the team in kills for the night with six. With Shannon Paton serving, the women took the lead by three on a Southern Miss attack error, but the lead did not last long. Southern Miss took its final lead of the game on a kill by Bridget Fines, making the score 11-10. East Carolina would go on to score 12 more points, but Southern Miss took the win by a score of 30-22.
The Golden Eagles took an early lead in game three as well. With Tribble serving, USM took a 4-3 lead. Southern Miss went up by as much as nine points in the game, and eventually won with a 12 point advantage, 30-18.
Four women had five kills for the Pirates. Jessica Vick led the team with 13 assists on the night, and the women were led defensively by Pam Ferris, who registered 12 digs.
East Carolina will host Tulane tomorrow night, November 2 at 7 p.m. That game will be held at Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum. The Green Wave are currently in eighth place in Conference USA.
