Chad Tracy Named Texas League Player of the Year
August 27, 2002 | Baseball
Tracy, who has led the league in hitting from "day one," becomes the first El Paso player to receive league MVP honors since Mike Kinkade won the award in 1997. Tracy entered Monday's action with a .350 batting average, roughly 30 points better than anyone else in the league with enough plate appearances to qualify to be among the league leaders. Tracy's 170 hits is also best in the league, as is his 36 doubles.
The Charlotte, North Carolina native also has 7 homers and 70 RBI's this year, and is batting .336 with runners in scoring position. Unlike most good lefty batters, Tracy has excelled this year against left-handed pitching, with a .368 batting average against southpaws.
Some other statistics that stand out for El Paso's third baseman...he has 53 multiple-hit games this year, and 24 games in which he has produced three or more hits. Tracy has also struck out just 49 times in 486 at-bats.
