CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The resurgent East Carolina women's basketball team had its hot streak at least momentarily cooled Friday night with a 83-57 loss at Charlotte.
The game was the Conference USA opener for the Lady Pirates, who fall to 7-6 overall. ECU entered the game having won six of its previous seven outings.
Pam Brown led the way for Charlotte (9-5, 1-0 C-USA) with 21 points. She finished 8-of-11 from the field to help the team shoot over 50 percent for the second time in their last three games. The 49ers shot .508 for the game, compared to .411 for East Carolina.
Alicia Abernathy and Peaches Harris also topped double figures in scoring for the Niners. Aberanthy had 15 points, while Harris ended the game with 14. Andrea Davidson had a big night on the boards, pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds.
Courtney Willis was the leading scorer for the Pirates with 15 points. She went 6-for-9 from the field.
Up two, 12-10, after the first media timeout, Charlotte went on an 11-2 run to break the game open. East Carolina battled back to within three, 27-24, on a Tali Robich three-pointer, but the 49ers countered with a 23-9 to lead at halftime, 50-33.
In the second half, the Pirates pulled within 13, but were unable to reduce their deficit further.
ECU returns home to host Campbell in a non-conference game on Tuesday night (7 p.m.) at Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
The Lady Pirates will not have to wait long for a rematch with their C-USA rivals as the 49ers visit Greenville on Sunday, Jan. 19 (2 p.m.).
