May 22, 2003 | Men's Golf
To qualify for the award, a player must have a grade point average of at least 3.2 and be a starter or key reserve on the field. District III includes all NCAA Division I schools in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
The at-large team consists of student-athletes in NCAA sports other than football, basketball, baseball, soccer and track/cross country.
Andren is a second team selection.
Andren, a junior, is an ECU Honor Roll and Dean's List student with a 4.0 GPA in business administration.
On the links, Andren played in nine tournaments in the 2002-2003 season, with a round average of 75.3. His best performance of the year came when he shot a team-low 215 at the Carolina First Intercollegiate, Sept. 23-24. Andren recorded a season-best 66 in the second round of the tournament, tying him with teammate Jonathan Hill for the top round of the season for a Pirate golfer.
Andren joins three other ECU student-athletes who have been recognized with similar awards for the 2002-2003 academic year. Earlier this year, Kristen Hoyle of women's soccer was named to the Verizon Academic All-America second team and Brian Rimpf and Richard Hourigan were named to the Academic All-District second team for football.
