
Lady Pirates Prepare For Arkansas State

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- On the heels of an impressive 73-52 win over Savannah State, the East Carolina women's basketball team turns its focus to the final non-conference road trip of the season, when they take on Arkansas State Jan. 3 at the Convocation Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
The Lady Pirates (7-4) will face a tough Arkansas State team that has amassed an 8-2 record this season. The Lady Indians hold a 1-0 series advantage over ECU, with the last meeting coming in 2001 during the U.S. Cellular Classic in Greenville. Arkansas State defeated the Lady Pirates 72-69.
In the Lady Pirates last outing against Savannah State, Courtney Willis and freshman guard Keisha Anthony scored 16 points each, and Willis grabbed 10 rebounds to record her sixth double-double of the season. Both Willis and Anthony shot 67 percent from the floor, while Willis was a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.
Fellow Lady Pirate Jennifer Jackson also scored in double figures hitting 5-of-7 from the floor for 14 points. ECU had nine players to score against Savannah State.
Arkansas State enters the game with a 8-2 record, posting victories against Murray State, Belmont, and Stephen F. Austin. Two of the Lady Indians losses this season came against Kent State and LSU.
The Lady Indians have three players averaging double figures and are led by Rudy Sims. The freshman guard is averaging 12.3 points and 2.4 steals. Arkansas State is coming off a 91-73 victory over Stephen F. Austin, where four players scored in double figures and were led by Adrianne Davie's 19 points.
ECU's next game will be against Murray State on Monday, Jan. 5 at Murray, Kentucky. The Lady Pirates will begin conference play on Jan. 9, when they host UAB.
