GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The East Carolina women's basketball team suffered its first loss in conference play falling to Marquette 75-61 Saturday afternoon in Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
The Lady Pirates (14-5, 5-1) limited the Golden Eagles (16-4, 6-1) to just five baskets in the first 16 minutes of play in the second half, but Marquette hit 12-of 14 free throws to keep the Lady Pirates at bay 61-51 with 4:17 remaining in regulation.
ECU cut the Golden Eagles lead down to six, 66-60, on a Keisha Anthony three-pointer at the 2:43 mark. But a stellar performance at the charity stripe sealed the Lady Pirates fate, as Marquette hit 6-of-7 down the stretch to snap ECU's eight game winning streak.
