
Lady Pirates Face Murray State In Last Non-Conference Game

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The Lady Pirates are coming off an impressive 62-52 win over Arkansas State and now prepare for their last non-conference game of the season, at Murray State Monday, Jan. 4 at the Regional Special Events Center in Murray, Ky. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m. Eastern.
The Lady Pirates (8-4) will face a tough Murray State (4-6) team that relies heavily on defensive quickness and pressure. The two teams come into the contest heading in different directions. ECU has won its last two games, beating Savannah State, 73-52, and Arkansas State, 62-52. The Lady Racers have dropped their last two games, falling to IPFW and Western Kentucky. This will mark the first time the two schools have meet.
In the Lady Pirates' last outing against Arkansas State, seniors Alisha Bishop and Courtney Willis guided ECU to its eighth win of the season. Bishop scored a game-high 18 points in 19 minutes of play coming off the bench, and gave head coach Sharon Baldwin-Tener the aggressive and physical spark the Lady Pirates needed to defeat Arkansas State.
Willis recorded her seventh double-double of the season, scoring 12 points, grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds, and hitting 6-of-12 shots from the floor. Junior guard Jennifer Jackson added 12 points, six rebounds and two steals.
Murray State enters the game with a 4-6 record, posting victories against Morgan State, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Arkansas-Little Rock, and Chicago State. The Lady Racers have two players averaging double figures and are led by Stacy Holmes. The senior guard is averaging 11.6 points and 6.3 boards a game, while teammate Rebecca Remington is averaging 10.3 points per game.
The Lady Racers are coming off a disappointing loss to Western Kentucky 72-64, where Holmes lead two players in double figures. She hit 9-of-24 shots from the floor for 23 points. Remington added 11 points in the loss.
ECU will return to action inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum on Friday, Jan. 9 when it hosts C-USA foe UAB at 7 p.m. to open up conference play.
