
Pirate Baseball Hosts Aggies

GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina looks to remain unbeaten Tuesday when North Carolina A&T comes to town for a mid-week game at 3 p.m. at Harrington Field. Junior right-hander Carter Harrell (2-0) will make his second start for the Pirates.
Sophomore second baseman Trevor Lawhorn is off to a torrid start leading the team hitting .464 with four doubles, three home runs and 11 RBI. Senior center fielder Ryan Jones had three extra base hits last week adding a double and two home runs. Jones now has three home runs on the season and needs just one home run to match his career-high.
Harrell is tied for the team lead in wins. He has not allowed an earned run in seven innings of work while striking out seven and allowing only one hit. ECU's pitching staff has posted a Conference USA best 1.29 ERA striking out 63 in 63 innings. Opponents are hitting .167 against the Pirates.
North Carolina A&T enters the mid-week game looking for its first win. The Aggies dropped three games to Campbell over the weekend, 18-11, 10-7 and 11-10. Charlie Gamble led the Aggies at the plate going 6-for-12 with four runs scored and three RBI against the Camels.
East Carolina is coming off a three-game sweep of Delaware, 6-4, 4-0 and 9-1. Lawhorn led the Pirates going 5-for-13 with three doubles, two home runs and seven RBI against the Blue Hens' ECU's pitching allowed only four earned runs 27 innings. ECU's three starters, Greg Bunn, Brody Taylor and Ricky Brooks each picked up a win. Bunn struck out eight in seven innings and has not allowed one earned run in 12 innings this season. Brooks earned his first career win striking out four in five scoreless innings.
ECU and North Carolina A&T meet for the fifth time with the Pirates holding a 4-0 advantage in the series. The Pirates won both meetings last season, 8-6, in Greensboro and, 12-2, in Greenville.
The Pirates continue their 12-game home-stand when they host the first annual Keith LeClair Invitational this weekend. ECU plays nationally-ranked Clemson Friday and Saturday and Georgia Southern Friday and Sunday.
