
No. 6 Sun Devils Rally for 7-6 Win

Mike Flye (1-1) took the loss for the Pirates surrendering the two-run home run with one out. Brody Taylor started the game for the Pirates on the mound and struck out six in 7.1 innings while allowing four earned runs. Dustin Sasser relieved Taylor and gave up two earned runs.
ASU scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth. Nick Walsh singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. Travis Buck's RBI single made it, 6-3. After a throwing error by ECU's John Poppert moved the runners up. Jeff Larish singled in two more runs cutting the deficit to 6-5. Flye relieved Sasser and gave up the two-run blast to Zinicola which ending up being the game-winner.
Senior centerfielder Ryan Jones went 3-for-4 with three RBI and needed a single to hit for the cycle. Darryl Lawhorn finished 3-for-5. The Pirates stranded nine baserunners in the contest.
Quentin Andes earned the win in relief for the Sun Devils while Pat Bresnehan earned his second save.
ECU scored four runs in the top of the sixth. Jones sixth home run of the season, a three-run blast, put the Pirates back on top 4-2 in the top of the sixth. ECU led off the inning with a walk by Drew Costanzo. After Mark Minicozzi sacrificed Costanzo over, John Poppert singled. Jones then homered down the right field line. ECU's final run of the inning came when Billy Richardson doubled and scored on Trevor Lawhorn's RBI single putting the Pirates ahead, 5-2.
ECU extended its lead to 6-2 in the top of the eighth. Jones doubled and advanced to third on Billy Richardson's sacrifice fly. Jamie Paige's RBI single gave the Pirates the four-run advantage.
The Pirates took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on Ryan Norwood's sacrifice fly which scored Jamie Paige. Paige walked to lead off the game and moved to third on Darryl Lawhorn's single down the right field line.
Arizona State tied the game, 1-1, in the bottom of the first when Travis Buck launched his third home run of the seasonm, a solo shot over the right field wall.
The Sun Devils took their first lead in the bottom of the second. Tuffy Gosewisch hit a solo home run to left field, ASU's second of the game, putting them on top, 2-1.
ECU and Arizona State will play their second game of the series Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. (EST). Right-hander Greg Bunn will start on the mound for the Pirates while ASU will send right-hander Jason Urquidez.
