
ECU Baseball Adds Two to Signing Class

Mattox is a 6-4, 210-pound sophomore at Chippola Junior College in Fla. He was chosen to the 2004 Baseball America Pre-Season All-American Juco Team. Mattox is currently batting .364 with 11 doubles, three triples and eight home runs and has stolen 22 bases on the season. As a freshman at Chippola, he batted .351 with nine doubles, one triple, three home runs and 20 RBI earning all-conference honors. He was selected in the 35th round by the Anaheim Angels in the 2003 major league draft. Mattox was named the 2001 Gatorade Arkansas High School Player of the Year and was selected in the fourth by the Chicago White Sox in the 2001 major league draft. A two-time all-state selection and a three-time all-conference choice, he batted .444 with 37 doubles, 10 triples and 20 home runs including 104 RBI and 42 stolen bases.
Ray is a senior at Burns High School in Shelby N.C. where he is four-year letterman. Mid-way through the 2004 season, Ray is hitting .612 with six home runs and 14 stolen bases. He hit for the cycle against rival Shelby going 5-for-5 with two doubles. He earned SWF all-conference honors as a sophomore and junior. He was received Burns' Best Hitter Award as a junior and was chosen to the All-Piedmont second team. He helped Burns to the 2003 NC Winter State USSA Championship. Ray will play his fourth season for the Shelby Post 82 Legion team this summer.
