
Andrews, Bishop Shut Out UNCW, 3-0

Andrews scattered six hits in the 6 2/3 innings. Bishop tossed the final 2 1/3 innings holding the Seahawks to one hit and striking out one. ECU snapped UNCW's nine-game winning streak and recorded its sixth shutout of the season. Bishop retired seven of the nine batters he faced. UNCW starter Will Hunt (2-1) also made his first career start and worked two innings, allowing one earned run and struck out three. Mark Minicozzi finished 2-for-5 for ECU which out-hit the Seahawks, 9-7, but stranded 15 baserunners including bases loaded twice.
Mark Minicozzi doubled in Ryan Norwood for the first run of the game putting ECU ahead, 1-0, in the top of the second. Norwood led off the second with his 21st double of the season.
The Pirates managed to load the bases in the top of the third with no outs. After the Seahawks recorded the first out, Norwood's sacrifice fly put ECU ahead, 2-0.
ECU loaded the bases once again in the top of the fourth with two outs. Moore struck out Trevor Lawhorn swinging to end the threat.
Jones' 22nd double of the season, tying the school record, gave the Pirates the 3-0 advantage in the top of the eighth. Paige singled up the middle with two outs and scored on Jones' hit.
UNCW tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth after Tim Preston reached on an error. Bishop retired the next three batters in order to seal the win.
Chip Grawey and John Raynor each went 2-for-4 for the Seahawks.
The Pirates return to the diamond Wednesday when ECU hosts N.C. State at Grainger Stadium in Kinston, N.C. The game is officially sold out. First-pitch is set for 7 p.m.
