"We needed to add depth on the perimeter and both of these young men give us quality depth in the backcourt," stated Herrion.
Hammonds, the son of former Georgia Tech All-American and NBA veteran Tom Hammonds, averaged 11.6 points per game this past season for Montrose Christian School in Rockville, Md. He led the Mustangs to a 25-4 overall record and a National Association of Christian Schools championship, netting 24 points in the title game. Hammonds earned all-state honorable mention honors at Crestview High in Crestview, Fla., before transferring to Montrose, where he played under renowned high school coach Stu Vetter, who has coached such great players as Dennis Scott, Randolph Childress and George Lynch.
"He comes from very good blood lines," said Herrion. "We're getting a kid with good size, strength and athletic ability. He comes from a good program and that's another thing we liked about him."
Kilgore averaged 22 points and seven assists as a senior at Lutheran High School in Philadelphia. Kilgore, along with fellow ECU signee Charles Bronson, led Lutheran to a 29-3 overall record and a final national ranking of No. 9. In a game against Coastal Christian this past season, Kilgore scored the game's final 16 points to rally Lutheran from a 14-point deficit in the final two minutes.
"Marvin is a combo guard that can play both positions in the backcourt," Herrion explained. "He has got good size and can really score the basketball. He will give us a lot of flexibility in the backcourt."
Hammonds and King join a quartet of players that have already signed with the Pirates, including 6-10 center Charles Bronson (Philadelphia, Pa./Lutheran Academy), 6-6 forward Jonathan Hart (Roselle, N.J./Abraham Clark High), 5-11 guard Josh King (Trinity, N.C./Trinity High) and 6-8 junior college post player Mike Castro (Brooklyn, N.Y./Allegany College).
