"We are very excited to have Hannah commit to East Carolina and our tennis program," stated Morris. "Hannah's ability on the court as well as her qualities as an individual and student will help take our program to a higher level."
Priest, a native of Carthage, N.C., attended Union Pines High School and was named conference player of the year as a freshman, sophomore and junior. She did not compete as a senior due to a knee injury. She is also a two-time regional champion. Priest compiled a 111-11 record during her high school career and ranked among the top 10 players in North Carolina as a junior.
"Hannah is one of the best high school players, I've ever coached," said Union Pines coach John Frye. "Hannah is an extremely tough baseline player who simply doesn't give up easy points. She plays every point hard and as a result wins many difficult matches."
Equally impressive are her achievements off the court. Priest was involved in 22 different service organizations in high school and graduated with a 4.3 grade point average, ranking among the top five percent of her graduating class.
"I'm looking forward to the new level of tennis I will engage in at East Carolina," said Priest. "ECU became my top choice once I visited and discovered exactly what I was looking for : Division I tennis, a beautiful campus and a physical fitness and activity program. It is my perfect match."
