
Howell Helps Lady Pirates Sweep Lady Aggies, 3-0

Junior libero Johanna Bertini tallied 15 digs as ECU improved to 4-2 on the season. Jaime Bevan and Erica Wilson each had six kills to help an ECU offense which only held a 33-18 advantage in kills. The Lady Pirates blocked North Carolina A&T, 9-6. Howell had five blocks in the match and hit. 304. Darlene Mitchell led the Lady Aggies with six kills and twin sister Arlene Mitchell added five kills.
ECU jumped out to a 10-4 lead in game one behind two service aces each from Pam Ferris and Abigail Parker. N.C. A&T came within 14-11, but Howell capped a 6-3 run with a kill giving the ECU a 20-14 advantage. Caitlin Daly's seven service points helped ECU finish game one with a 10-3 run.
The Lady Pirates overcame a 13-7 deficit to take game two, 30-26. N.C. A&T broke a 6-6 tie with a 7-1 run capitalizing on three Lady Pirate errors. The teams exchanged points until East Carolona broke a 25-25 tie. Howell had two kills down the stretch in the ECU win.
ECU broke a 10-10 tie in game three with a 9-2 run courtesy of five errors from the Lady Aggies. N.C. A&T came within, 19-16 after an attacking error by Wilson, but ECU stretched its lead to 22-16. Howell put the game away with two more kills including the final kill of the match giving the Lady Pirates the match.
Sophomore setter Heidi Krug finished with 28 set assists and three service aces. ECU had 10 service aces in the match. Krug also added nine digs.
East Carolina now heads to the Winthrop Tournament in Rock Hill, S.C. ECU will take on Winthrop, UNC Greensboro and Belmont this weekend.
