
Pirates Fall To Tulsa, 4-2, On Senior Day

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina men's soccer team dropped its final home match of the season at Bunting Field Sunday afternoon to Tulsa, 4-2. The match, designated as Senior Day, saw five Pirates (Matt Kowaleski, Sean Harris, Shinn Takagi, David Rowe and Ryan Bostian) close out their careers at home.
The Pirates (0-13-1, 0-7-0) got on the board first in the 22nd minute of play when Zach Matthews sent a cross to Calvin Simon, which he put in the lower left post. For Simon it was his sixth goal of the season.
Tulsa (5-6-6, 2-4-3) answered a minute later when Daniel Wasson headed a ball to Matt Wiley, who then headed it past ECU keeper Zachery Roszel to tie the game at 1-1.
ECU's Matt Kowaleski netted his sixth goal of the season when Danny Lundquist served the ball off a free kick in the 36th minute of play.
In the second half of play, Tulsa netted three goals to claim a 4-2 win. Kyle Brown scored the Golden Hurricane second goal of the day off his own rebound at the 55:21 mark.
Nine minutes later, Wiley collected his second goal of the afternoon and the game-winning goal off a blocked free kick.
Jonathan Lange sealed the Pirates fate with Tulsa's fourth goal in the 77th minute when he received a pass from Eric Burkholder.
In his fourth start of the season, Roszel recorded a season-high 14 saves on 19 shots faced.
The Pirates will travel to Florida for their final two matches of the season, both make-up games from Hurricane Wilma.
