GREENVILLE, N.C. - Brooke Walter, the top-ranked girls 18 & under player in North Carolina who also led Greensboro Page High School to a pair of state titles, has signed a national letter-of-intent to attend and play tennis at East Carolina University according to an announcement from head women's tennis coach Tom Morris Wednesday.
As a result of a top 20 regional rank by United States Tennis Association (USTA), Walter represented North Carolina as the No. 1-seeded player at the Southern Region Davis Cup/Fed Cup Tournament for three consecutive years. She posted a 6-1 combined record in singles and doubles to lead Team North Carolina to wins over Kentucky, Alabama and Louisiana earlier this year.
Walter posted dual match records of 67-3 (singles) and 22-3 (doubles) at Page High School and played a key role in the school's run of four straight North Carolina Class 4A State Championship Finals appearances and state titles in 2004 and 2005. She earned All-Metro Conference honors all four years and was an all-state selection in 2002, 2003 and 2004.
"Brooke is the type of quality individual we are looking for in our program," Morris said. "She holds a top five ranking in the classroom and was the top-ranked player while playing in both the 16 & under and 18 & under divisions in North Carolina. We're very fortunate to have her in our program and I am looking forward to having her with us."
Walter currently stands in the top one percent of her class at PHS after compiling a 4.9 grade point average. She was inducted into the National Honor Society and is a National Merit Commended Student and an AP Scholar with Distinction.
