
Former Lady Pirate Hoopster Inks Contract With Birmingham Power

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Former East Carolina women's basketball star, Courtney Willis, has signed another professional contract this time with the Birmingham Power of the National women's Basketball League.
Willis had been playing with BC Asteras Exarchia of the Greek National League in Athens, Greece, during the 2004-05 International League Season.
As a senior, The Fayetteville, N.C. native, led the Lady Pirates to back-to-back Conference USA Tournament appearances and became the first Lady Pirate in school history to earn first-team All C-USA honors. She averaged 18.6 points and 10.0 rebounds a contest, and recorded 14 double-doubles, on her way to becoming the 18th Lady Pirate to record1,000 points in a career.
Willis scored 1,374 career points in 102 career games and collected 22 career double-doubles, 67 double digit point games, and 22 double digit rebound games. She sits sixth all-time on the Lady Pirates career scoring charts, ranks tenth in career scoring average (13.5), and sixth in career field goal accuracy (.512).
In four games with the Power, Willis is averaging 3.5 points and 0.8 rebounds per game in 8.5 minutes of action.
The Power will next play in Birmingham on Mar. 4 at 7 p.m. when they host San Jose at Boutwell Auditorium.
The NWBL is a six-team league that features more than 25 active WNBA players. Other teams in the league include the Chicago Blaze (Naperville, IL); Colorado Chill (Fort Collins, CO); Dallas Fury (Dallas, TX); Lubbock Hawks (Lubbock, TX); and San Jose Spiders (San Jose, CA).
