Brooks Named Louisville Slugger's National Player of the Week
April 25, 2005 | Baseball
The nine-inning no-hitter was the first thrown by a Pirate since Foye Minton kept N.C. State hitless in an 8-0 win over the Wolfpack on Feb. 14, 1999 in Charleston, S.C. Prior to Minton's no-hitter, the most recent nine-inning no-hitter in school history was thrown by Mickey Britt in 1978.
Brooks, who came within one out of recording a no-hitter earlier this season versus Charlotte on March 26, went the complete nine innings for the third time this season. He also struck out a career-high 14 batters, shattering his previous mark of nine he set last weekend at Louisville. The sophomore right-hander faced just the one batter over the minimum 27 en route to his fourth win of the season. Adam Amar was the lone Tiger to reach base on a strikeout wild pitch that got away from catcher Jake Smith, allowing him to reach first, breaking up the perfect game. He struck out at least two batters in five different innings and tossed just 98 pitches on the day.
In two starts this past week, Brooks allowed just one run on two hits in 12 1/3 innings while striking out 16 and walking just two.
ECU travels to Charleston Tuesday to face The Citadel at 3 p.m. at Joe Riley Park before returning home to host Cincinnati April 29 - May 1.
