July 27, 2005 | General
The addition of WPWZ (95.5 FM) in Rocky Mount, WDLX (930 AM) in Washington, WPCM (920 AM) in Burlington, WSTK (104.5 FM) in New Bern and WODR (97.7 FM) in Williamston expands coverage area and increases the Pirate Sports Radio Network affiliate list to 27 for the 2005 season, which gets underway Sept. 3 when ECU hosts Duke at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
"We are excited to have these stations join the network," said Charles, who also will be beginning his 18th season behind the microphone as the "Voice of the Pirates" in 2005. "WPWZ will provide a quality FM signal in Greenville, Rocky Mount and Wilson while WDLX will partner with Pirate Radio 1250 to bring ECU fans outstanding coverage in Pitt, and now, Beaufort Counties. We are also proud that Pirate football will have a home in New Bern and Morehead City at 104.5 FM on the dial, and that WPCM will bring a terrific presence to the Triad."
Charles will again be joined on each broadcast by North Carolina Sports and ECU Hall of Fame running back Carlester Crumpler this season while Marty Feurer (booth host) and Kevin Monroe (sideline reporter) round out the Pirate Sports Radio Network team.
In all, Pirate football is heard throughout North Carolina as well as portions of South Carolina and Virginia on the 27-station network which is owned and operated by the East Carolina University Department of Athletics.
