East Carolina Women's Tennis Competes In Charleston

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - Senior Kirstin Buchanan and sophomore Luize Borges each won all three of their singles matches to lead East Carolina during play in the College of Charleston Invitational at The Tennis Center at Patriot's Point Sept. 16-18.
While playing in the Flight B division, Buchanan and Borges combined to capture six of eight matches in which the Pirates competed. The pair reached the championship of the bracket but the title match was cancelled because of dangerous heat and humidity levels. Sophomore Hannah Priest, after winning two earlier matches in the same draw, advanced to the third-place finals before falling 7-5, 6-2 to Kim Whelan of Davidson.
Sophomore Mireira Gol continued her early season success, following a 3-0 performance last weekend at UNC Wilmington with a three victories in four matches to earn a fifth-place finish in the Flight A bracket. Freshman Logan Beam led the Pirates with a pair of wins in the "C" Draw before falling 6-3, 6-3 in the championship match to Davidson's Emily Wilkinson.
ECU's tandem of Beam and Zandy Overcash registered the Pirates' only doubles triumph after earning an 8-6 win over a mixed team of Diana Cardenas (Georgia State) and Betsey Haywood (Davidson).
The Pirates will continue its fall season this weekend, competing at the N.C. State Invitational in Raleigh.
