BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The East Carolina men's soccer team dropped their second game of the season to Winthrop, 2-0 in the second round of the Jako Classic Tournament Saturday afternoon.
Winthrop's David Kenga put the Eagles on the board in a hurry with a shot past the Pirate's goalie 2:24 into the game.
Winthrop (1-1) found themselves in the same position as they were in on Thursday night against Appalachian State taking a 1-0 lead after the first period. However, having allowed the Mountaineers to come back and win that game on Thursday, the Eagles were determined to not let this game slip away.
Junior Chris Hicks (Wendell, N.C.) recorded his second start of the season in goal recording six saves on 15 shots faced.
Michael Crowley (Chadds Ford, Pa.) and senior co-captain Ryan Bostian (Raleigh, N.C.) were named to the 2005 Jako Classic All-Tournament Team for the outstanding play.
ECU (0-2) will be back in action Wednesday, Sept. 7 when they travel to Elon, N.C. to take on instate foe Elon. The Pirates will host Georgia Southern Sunday, Sept. 11 in their home opener of the 2005 season.
