GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina volleyball team defeated Conference USA foe UAB 3-1 (33-31, 27-30, 30-27, 30-21) Friday night at Minges Coliseum. The Pirates hit .264 in the win. East Carolina improves to 11-9 on the year, 2-4 in C-USA play while UAB falls to 14-6, 2-3 in C-USA.
Kelley Wernert and Mignon Dubenion paced the Pirates, with Wernert tallying 20 kills and adding 12 digs for her ninth double-double of the season. Dubenion finished the night with 18 kills and six blocks. Heidi Krug also recorded a double-double with 52 kills and 12 digs. Libero Trish Monroe added 15 digs.
Aleksandra Vujovic led the Blazers with 17 kills and 13 digs, hitting .256 on the night. Ivana Bozic added 15 kills and five digs while Fernanda Domingos and Casey Dent each tallied 13 kills.
The Pirates out-hit the Blazers .264-.140 on the night. UAB tallied 67 kills to ECU's 61. East Carolina registered 57 digs and 14 total blocks in the win while the Blazers had 54 digs and five total blocks.
East Carolina returns to Minges Coliseum Sunday afternoon for a tilt against C-USA opponent Memphis. Match time is set for 1:00 p.m.
