
ECU Bounces Back With Shutout Win Over Radford

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The East Carolina women's tennis squad took all six singles matches and earned the doubles point to record a convincing 7-0 non-conference victory over Radford late Tuesday night at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the Virginia Tech campus.
The Lady Pirates improved to 6-2 while the Highlanders fell to 2-3.
ECU captured all three doubles matches to tally the first point before winning 12 of 13 sets to sweep through the singles events.
Freshman Anca Dumitru opened singles play by cruising past Radford's Daniela Milano 6-4, 6-0 at the No. 1 position while senior Gillie Bailey (6-0, 6-1 at No. 2), senior Kirstin Buchanan (4-6, 6-2, 10-6 at No. 3), sophomore Luiza Borges (6-0, 6-0 at No. 4), sophomore Hannah Priest (6-0, 6-1 at No. 5) and sophomore Alex Smith (6-1, 6-3 at No. 6) all were triumphant in their respective matches.
East Carolina quickly jumped out in front after wins in all three doubles pairings as the tandems of Bailey/Buchanan, Borges/Mireia Gol and Smith/Dumitru tallied 8-1, 8-4 and 8-2 victories, respectively.
ECU will complete its season-opening nine-match road trip against N.C. State in Raleigh at 11:00 a.m. Saturday.
