IRVING, Texas - East Carolina's senior doubles tandem of Gillie Bailey and Kirstin Buchanan were named Conference USA Women's Tennis Co-Athletes-of-the-Week for their play during the week of March 20-26 according to a release from the league media relations office Tuesday afternoon.
The pair of veterans earned ECU's first doubles national ranking in the program's history last Tuesday, coming in at No. 48 in the FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
The duo extended its winning streak to 11 after a non-conference victory against Campbell (8-2) and a pair of C-USA wins vs. Memphis (8-2) and UAB (8-4) in Myrtle Beach while playing at the No. 1 position. Included in their string of wins, which began Feb. 16 vs. Elon, was an 8-7 (7-2) triumph over No. 45 Meg Fanjoy and Austin Smith of North Carolina on March 13.
In all, Bailey and Buchanan have posted a 12-3 (.800) mark this spring and won 16 of 22 overall matches this season after recording a 4-3 mark during fall tournament play. The pair has combined to win 19 of 25 matches during their career, which includes a perfect 3-0 mark in 2004-05.
