GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina swept intra-state foe North Carolina A&T Tuesday night at Minges Coliseum. The win marks ECU's sixth shutout of the season, and the third straight. The Pirates improve to 9-6 on the year heading into the bulk of Conference USA action while North Carolina A&T falls to 6-4.
Mignon Dubenion paced the Pirates for the fourth straight match, tallying 15 kills, hitting .591 on the night. Heidi Krug led the team defensively, putting up 10 digs and adding 38 assists for the double-double. Krug, Dubenion and Kim Jefferson each had three blocks in the win.
Arlene Mitchell led the Aggies with 13 kills while Aundia Gray added 10. Krystal Cooper had eight digs to lead the squad while setter Brenden Chatman tallied 32 assists.
Despite winning the match (30-19, 30-24, 30-26), the Pirates tied the Aggies in kills, with 43 each, outhitting them .233-.188. ECU recorded 35 digs to A&T's 32 and had seven total blocks.
East Carolina travels to New Orleans, Louisiana on Friday, Sept. 22 to take on Tulane for its first road conference match of the season. Match time is set for 8 p.m. EDT. The Pirates return to Minges Coliseum on Sunday, Sept. 24 to face UTEP at 1 p.m.
